May 4,1936 - January 22, 2023
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Forest Hills Funeral Homes - Palm City Chapel on Jan. 24, 2023.
Harold Lane Fenner of Port St Lucie, FL, went home to meet his Lord peacefully on January 22, 2023 at Treasure Coast Hospice surrounded by his family. Hal was born in Mountain City, TN on May 4, 1936 to Walter and Nell Fenner in a modest home with no running water or electricity. Walter moved his family to Kennett Square, Pennsylvania in 1943. Hal attended Kennett Square High School and Drexel University. He graduated with a B.S. in Accounting in 1960. Through a Drexel colleague (and eventual brother-in-law) Hal met and married Dorothy Agnes Goglia in 1961 and enjoyed 28 years of marriage before her death in 1990. In 1991, through a blind-date set up by mutual friends, Hal met and fell in love with Melanie Roland and they married in December of 1991.
Hal honorably served in the U.S. Army reserve and had a distinguished, 38 year career with Exxon Corporation, mostly in the financial reporting and auditing fields, Hal retired as General Auditor for Exxon Corporation in Dallas, Texas in 1999. Hal's illustrious Exxon career took him around the world, raising his family in Maryland, Brazil, Florida, Connecticut, England and New Jersey. He made the most of his retirement years traveling the globe with Melanie, while maintaining residences in both Banner Elk, NC (Elk River Club ) and Palm City, FL. (Harbour Ridge Country Club). Hal's passion for life and his love of golf took him to exotic destinations on all seven continents; however, he always loved playing on his home courses where he had multiple holes-in-one. His love for God and his family were the most important things in his life followed by his passion for golf.
Hal is survived by his beloved wife Melanie Roland Fenner and children: H. Lane Fenner Jr. (Sandy), Stephanie Fenner Henderson (Doug), Brian Fenner (Debbie), David Fenner (Dee), Dr. Frank Roland Jr. (Kristen) and Ashley Roland Nagel (Bill) and sixteen grandchildren (Lauren, Dillon, Szilvia, Kristof, Joshua, Jacob, Luke, Tyler, Austin, Jordan, David, Jack, Will, Caroline, Matthew and Jessica) and three great grandchildren (Natalia, Luca and Koa).
Hal was a devout Christian and was always willing to share his faith with others. He was a servant leader, involved with many charitable organizations including: as a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society, of The United Way and the Grandfather Mountain Children's Home. He actively served in leadership positions at various churches and homeowners associations where he lived. Hal was a member of Christ Fellowship Church and enjoyed several weekly Bible studies; Hal founded the Men's Bible Study group at Harbor Ridge 20 years ago, which is still vibrant today.
